One of my ancestors was Thomas Hooker. He landed in New England on The Griffin. Thomas Hooker was the founder of the Connecticut Valley Settlement at Hartford.
In The Life of Thomas Hooker by GEORGE LEON WALKER published 1891, there are two mentions that hand me both a puzzle and an answer.
It mentions that Hooker grew up in Marfield, near Tilton - the land of the Digbys. In fact, Thomas Hookers great-great-grandmother is cicilia Digby. She was born in 1504. She is an ansestor of Sir Everard Digby (1578-1606) - thats the answer. the question is how ;)
Sir Everard Digby was involved in the 1605 Gunpowder Plot with guy fawkes.
the other puzzle was this quote:

There were also in the Marfield family of our
Thomas's father at least four daughters, one of whom
married a "revolutionist by the name of Pymm ; "

Thomas' grandmother's name was Pymm. Susannah Pymm.
so, the burning question is: WHAT revolutionist?
thomas got his rebeling in his blood. He had to hot-foot it out of england cause he pissed off the church.
